Homebrew, marijuana sold openly at market

In regards to the letter "Why marijuana isn't real medicine" (Oct. 22): The writer needs to do some homework and open her mind. Not every medical pot patient smokes a joint! Patients can take a suppository or have a cup of tea made with marijuana. It does come in recommended doses from a doctor -- you know, a person who went to a real medical school to practice medicine, not some "doper dude."

Voters in our state voted yes on this wonderful medication grown from the earth, not made in a lab. People die every day from lab-made drugs ordered by their doctors, like Vicodin, codine, OxyContin, morphine and many other chemical medicines. And yes we can grow our own medicine, if the person is healthy enough to do so. I drive to Hayward once a month to get my tea bags. I have no other places to go for my legal needs.

Queen Elizabeth I used pot for PMS; in the Orient, they give it to pregnant women to slow preterm births. Open your minds and hearts and then decide if we are junkies or just very ill people who want a pain-free and puke-free life.
